Dear Spa City Blues Society Members,
The dust has finally settled from the 21st Hot
Springs Blues Festival. While the music was some of
the best the Spa City Blues Society has offered up,
the participation was less than expected. Our
attendance for this year’s festival was
approximately half of what was expected and
budgeted. As a result, the SCBS is facing a deficit
of just under $14,000.
We need our members’ help! Your SCBS Board of Directors has put together a plan to tackle this deficit over the next 90 days. To do this, we need your assistance. In fact, your assistance is critical to the continued survival of the Spa City Blues Society.
If we are unable to meet these expenses, the very real possibility exists that there may not be a Spa City Blues Society in the future. The SCBS does a lot in the community. Without your support we could say goodbye to the following activities: Hot Springs Blues Festival; Hot Springs Gumbo & Crawfish Festival; Hot Springs Craft Beer Festival; Hump Night Blues Jam; Blue Thursdays concert series; and the Blues In The Schools.
We have put together several opportunities for members (and the community) to participate in. Following is an outline of activities and opportunities to donate.
There will be a donation button on the society website with different levels of contributions. The levels are $25, $50, $75, $100, $150 and Other Amount. If each of our members donated $150 our deficit would be erased. Realizing this may be difficult to do we have created the other levels. For every donation of $50 or more, members will be entered into a drawing for two possible prizes: a weekend stay in Eureka Springs and $50 gift certificate to The Big Chill. Our deadline for contributions that are eligible for the drawings is October 31.
• Take-out Dinners
We will be serving two pre-order carry out dinners. Dinners will be served on Saturday, October 14, and Sunday, November 12. Pick up times for each day will be 11:00 am – 1:00 pm for lunch and 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm for dinner. The pick-up location will be The Big Chill, 910 Higdon Ferry. The menu for October 14 will be pulled pork and sides. The menu for November 12 will be spaghetti and sides. Dinners are $10 each in advance. There will be no dinners available the day of pick up. Dinners may be delivered for purchases of 10 or more and an extra $10 delivery charge. Dinners may be purchased online.
• Yard Sale
On Saturday, October 14, we will hold a yard sale in the parking lot of The Big Chill. The yard sale will be from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. We will have items from The Big Chill, SCBS merchandise and some of our own donated items. We would like to invite you to donate your unused and unwanted items to the SCBS for this yard sale.
• Backyard BBQ
We will offer up a Backyard BBQ package that includes hamburgers, hot dogs and the fixin’s for up to 30 people along with a performance by the Spa City Youngbloods. These will be limited to two packages with a total cost of $1500 per package.
In addition to these requests to members for assistance, the SCBS board of directors is also doing the following:
• Reinstate the $2 cover charge for the Hump Night Blues Jams. This will resume with the jam on October 11.
• Ask our festival sponsors to consider making an additional tax deductible donation to the society.
• Continued planning for other fundraising events and activities. We are open to suggestions and ideas!

Our membership has always been our strongest asset in anything we do whether it’s putting on events, doing a community service or raising money. We appreciate your support of and dedication to the Spa City Blues Society. Your support now will, quite literally, help keep the blues alive in Hot Springs.
